Sail Yachts: Some important things you need to know

A sail boat will use wind as its first source of movement, which makes it very environmentally friendly, with little noise pollution, and minimal fumes, and these types of yachts come in a variety of designs. Before you buy your sail yacht your going to need some of the sail boat terms to get the best out of your ship, which i have listed below;

1. Bow – The front part of the sail yacht

2. Stern – The rear part of the sail yacht

3. Tiller – The part that steers the sail yacht

4. Deck – Part of the boat where you can stand while sailing your yacht

5. Sail – A sheet that helps in capturing the wind to set the boat moving

6. Hull – The body of the boat

7. Mast – The vertical pole structure that spreads the sail

8. Rigging – A host of ropes of lines that are attached to the sail and mast to help in trimming and hoisting the sail, and in controlling the direction of the boat while sailing

The direction of the boat comes from the movement of the sail while catching the wind to move the boat forward.

It is also important for you to know the various parts of the yacht and how they help. This is important if the sea gets suddenly rough and you find it difficult to handle the boat.

Buying your yacht New or Used?

Yachts are top of the range boats mainly used for pleasure, yahts can come in a wide variety of designs, and types. When buying your yacht you should aim to find one that your comfortable with and fits your tastes. Some important points to look upon when buying a new or used yacht is to list all the things you wish to have on your boat. Ask yourself what do i need, and what do i want. When i say what do you ”Need” i mean what is the essentials, are you going to use it for a weeks holiday? If so then your going to need cookers, beds etc, enough so you can live in, if you are using it for a small fishing day trip, some things can be left out. Then what i mean by your ”Wants” is the luxuries your yacht could have, TV’s etc.

Always plan a budget before you go out shopping for a yacht and stick to it, otherwise it could be a very expensive purchase.

Buying A New Yacht

If you’re rather buy a new boat, all you need to do is enter into an agreement with the builder or distributor.

Items To Consider When Buying A Used Yacht

It’s a fact that a person can buy and sell a yacht without the need for formal paperwork, as a verbal agreement between two parties would be enough to constitute a legally binding contract, but we strongly recomend a contract when buying.

Other Factors To Take Into Consideration

Whether you’re buying the boat from the owner the most important factors to consider are the overall condition of the yacht, and whether the seller actually has, or is given the right to sell that particular boat. Unless the boat is being bought as part a restoration project or the buyer is well aware of its actual state, the advice is to always enter into an agreement that is “subject to survey” within the terms of the contract.

Some tips on buying your luxury yacht

Empower your Assets by buying a Used or New yacht, there are different types of yachts you can invest in, sailing yachts, or power yachts, which all depend on your budget and needs. Yacht lengths can be as small as 15ft all the way up to 100ft, and if you read my post on the Octopus yacht you can see that some reach up to 414ft in length. When buying a yacht you need to ask your self a few questions, one being where will you be using the yacht? If you used it in the rough seas you need to have similar standards to the 65′ Bluewater Yachts Legacy 65, which features the following;

When you are opting for used yachts, you must be aware of certain parameters and their measuring units. Performance of a Yacht is measured in knots like Cruising speed 14.5 knots. Tank capacities become important if you sail for long. Accommodation mainly depends upon the size but the modern outlook blessed with technology marvels have always attempted to provide a larger room even in the smaller ones. Propulsion, measured in RPM become more pertinent in the mid of the sea. Super Yachts, Octopus is the seventh largest yacht

Today I’m going to write about Octopus, which is currently the seventh largest luxury yacht in the world, the owner of the monstrous yacht is the co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen. The ship measures a massive 414 feet, with many luxuries to go along with it including, two helicopters, a submarine which can stay under water for 2 weeks at a time, and holds eight people. The ship also has an additional seven boats, for activities and lifeboats, the ship can boast its Music hall, and Movie theatre along with many other desirable features. It was previously the worlds largest privately owned super yacht, and held this spot for over five years. Espen Oino Naval Architects one of the world leaders in designing luxury yachts designed this particular yacht, in which German shipbuilders then built the exterior. The interior designer was Jonathan Quinn Barnett and Christian Grevstad. Maintenance and salaries on the ship cost a reportedly 10% percent of the initial cost of the yacht which is 200 million dollars. The Octopus Yacht only hire the world leaders in their fields to work on the ship, and everything is done to perfection, Royal Family standards.

Insuring your new Luxury Yacht

If you own a luxury yacht, you need to insure it.

When insuring your yacht for the right insurance policy you need to ask your self, what type of yacht you own, and what your plans are for it, holiday, living etc.

Yacht insurance not only covers the boat but also passengers, damage to other yachts etc.

Policy types

1. Third Party Liability covers yacht owners for any damage they are not liable for. It also will cover injuries to others.
2. Comprehensive Cover usually covers all accidental damage, fire, theft and vandalism but is subject to policy conditions.
3. New-for-Old Cover means that any item damaged will be replaced with a new one. But be careful there may be an age limit clause.
4. Racing Risks Cover is for those wishing to enter their boat in races.
5. Laid Up Period refers to the policies where it is established that a vessel is laid up ashore at certain times of the year.

Homeowner’s policy

It’s possible to have a yacht insured under your home insurance policy, but this will rarely cover specific risks such as running aground or wreck removal.

Always check the country limits of any yacht cover before heading off on holiday. Many countries will ask for evidence of insurance cover.

Which insurance company to choose

You should always choose a familiar and reputable insurance company. Many regular high street insurers are able to offer yacht insurance, but may not have the expertise to offer the best advice. You should always try to get insurance from the UK (if you live here) as then you are subject to UK laws.
